Speak Out provides an advocacy services for people with learning disabilities who live in South Lanarkshire (except Rutherglen and Cambuslang). Advocacy means to speak up for yourself, someone else or for a group of people.
Speak Out helps people to have more say about the services they receive, to get information to help them make choices and to raise problems they are worried about.
Some examples of advocacy support are:
How We Do ThisWe will meet you to talk about the problem you would like advocacy support for. If we can help you we will make an agreement about what we can do to help. If we cannot help you we will try and put you in touch with someone who can.
How Long ForWe provide advocacy support for individual issues. Once we have taken the advocacy issue as far as we agreed with you, the advocacy support will end. If you want advocacy support for another issue you can ask about this at any time.
ConfidentialityThe advocacy worker will talk about their work with their manager. They might talk about their work with other advocacy workers so that they can get more information about issues. They will not give information about you to any other people unless you have said this is okay. If the advocacy worker is worried about your or other people's safety they may gave to tell other people about the problem. There is more information about this in our Confidentiality Policy. DatabaseSpeak Out keep information about people we work with on a computer database. This information is only used to help the project with their work and to get information on things like how many people we are working with. No personal information we keep will be given to any other people or service. If you are worried about this information, or want to see any information we have about you, please speak to your advocacy worker. There is more information about this in our Confidentiality Policy.
